Red Kidney Bean Usual (Curry)

Ingredients & Materials:

  2 cups Red Kidney Beans

2 Tbsp. ghee

2-3 cups water

½ teaspoon turmeric

½ teaspoon cumin seeds

½ teaspoon Coriander seeds

½ tbsp. Ginger Garlic Paste

Salt to taste

1 large pan

1 lid to cover

1 ladle

Cooking Method:                               Prep Time: 10 minutes                                Cooking time: 30 minutes

  1. Soak Red Kidney beans overnight in water. Rinse and pressure cook for 2 whistles or Use canned low sodium Red kidney beans, rinse before use .
  2. Next put the pan on the stove, keep the heat on medium. Add Ghee **Tip: You can substitute ghee with Oil of your choice !
  3. Next add Cumin seeds, coriander seeds, Turmeric and Ginger Garlic Paste.
  4. Make sure the spices don’t burn. Reduce the heat to low if needed.
  5. Next add Red Kidney Beans and mix well.
  6. Add 2 cups water and let it come to a boil. Cover the pan with the lid, reduce the heat to low. Watch for the water content. After cooking on low for 15 mins, open the lid and gently stir.
  7. Check if Red Kidney Bean are cooked well, if not add 1 cup water, cover and cook until Red Kidney Beans cook completely.
  8. Add Salt to taste.
  9. Serve hot yummy Red Kidney Bean Usal with steamed rice, khichari or rotis.
